Symptoms:

  • Delayed engagement
  • Chatter on acceleration
  • Adaptive limit codes
  • Unstable solenoid pressure

Cause:

Bore wear at the VSTV valve allows pressure escape that causes drivability issues.

Correction:

Recondition the bore and installing the Sonnax VSTV pilot pressure valve re-establishes proper modulated VSTV pilot pressure.

Warning:

For 01J applications, use 33741B-06. See casting comparison illustration to correctly identify unit being worked on.

In VW/Audi 01J transmissions, the VSTV valve is the regulator to both N88 shift pressure and the N215 line pressure control solenoids. As the bore wears, solenoid output will not react according to the control module requirements, eventually setting adaption limit codes. The Sonnax oversized VSTV pilot pressure valve 33741B-07 allows the bore to be refurbished and restores the hydraulic integrity of the circuit for proper modulated VSTV pilot pressure. Hardcoat anodized aluminum valve combats premature wear.

Sonnax valve body layouts provide a detailed overview of individual units making it quick and easy to determine what’s available for the specific valve body you’re working on. See all Sonnax valve body layouts.
