Manufacturing Engineer - New Jersey Facility

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Manufacturing Engineer - Remanufacturing at our New Jersey facility is responsible to deliver results as a key member of the Technical team and CFT’s (cross-functional teams). This hands-on individual develops and maintains methods/process/testing programs and supports or leads improvement projects to ensure that Sonnax Remanufactured Valve Bodies are produced with a focus on our business priorities of safety, quality, delivery (timeliness) and continuous improvement. Working with engineering, sales, purchasing, the site-based management team, shop personnel and vendors will be essential to achieve the results associated with these responsibilities.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure safety is top priority and that all manufacturing solutions provide safe and ergonomic work environment.
  • Work collaboratively and gather input from all necessary stakeholders prior to deciding best methods and practices. Ensures that solutions are understood and implemented.
  • Read and understand hydraulic and electrical schematics, and be able to apply this knowledge to troubleshooting quality improvement opportunities that result from the remanufacturing process.
  • Formulate, document, trouble shoot, and maintain valve body assembly& test programs in compliance with established standards.
  • Creates/maintains production routings, bills of materials, work instructions and manufacturing cost analysis to all applicable departments.
  • Assists and advises Design Engineers as to the best possible design for manufacturability to keep product cost down.
  • Designs, identifies and implements new tooling and equipment into the remanufacturing process.
  • Works with other team members and cross-functional team members to support problem solving new product development, remanufacturing operations, quality projects and other continuous improvement work as assigned.
  • Engages and applies practical problem solving methods and root cause analysis and corrective actions on manufacturing and product investigations (e.g. internal and end customer feedback, process variability etc.).
  • Identifies systemic performance issues and proposes and implements solutions to ensure root cause analysis and corrective solutions are implemented. 
  • Analyzes, interprets trends, data and initiates improvement on key performance metrics. 
  • Identifies and insures documentation of potential risk with mitigation plans.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering or equivalent and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in manufacturing engineering, preferably in a manufacturing-related environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of hydraulic and electrical circuits and the ability to interpret the related schematic diagrams.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of process methods, inspection and/or Quality Control, experience in precision metal fabrication, assembly and or testing preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Lean, Continuous Improvement, Six Sigma Methodologies; certification a plus.
  • The ability to learn and master valve body test programming as demonstrated by experience with CNC or other industrial programming.
  • Proficient in Solid Works or AutoCAD and MS Office suite with emphasis on analytical spreadsheets.  
  • Ability to learn and use a computer-based ERP program.  
  • Knowledge of GD & T is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems ISO9001 preferred.
  • Knowledge of automotive drivetrain technology is desired but not required.
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills, attention to detail. 
  • Ability to work well in a cross-functional team environment. 

TRAVEL AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Availability for travel up to 10% of scheduled time.
  • Work environment is hands on.
  • 70% production floor and 30% office.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to wear required PPE for area, including safety glasses and steel-toed shoes and ability to lift up to 20lbs.
