Machinist

POSITION OVERVIEW

Set up and operate manual and computerized numerical control (CNC) machines to produce parts, tools and fixtures to specified tolerances with minimal or no supervision.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Interpret engineering drawings, sketches and sample parts to understand the tolerances and requirements of the parts to be machined.
  • Independently develop manufacturing process to manufacture tooling, fixtures, gauges or parts.
  • Understand the importance of processing different parts correctly with good problem solving capabilities.
  • Knowledge of G&M code programming to edit and update new and existing programs. 
  • Able to manually program machines on the floor for simple parts.
  • Understand and correct tooling issues relating to feeds, speeds, wear and tooling setup.
  • Run production for small lot, rework, pilot and prototype parts.
  • Take proper care of all Sonnax tools and equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance, such as maintaining fluid levels, to metal cutting equipment and keep work areas clean and free of hazards. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED. 
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience setting up and operating CNC and Manual equipment including mills, lathes, surface and ID/OD grinders.  
  • Basic understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, 
  • Able to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Use and read precision measuring tools.  
  • Good understanding of basic shop math.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • No restrictions on wearing required PPE for area, including safety footwear and protective eyewear.
