Symptoms:

  • Code P0741
  • Excess TCC slip
  • Code 1783
  • High line pressure
  • Overheated transmission

Cause:

Bore wear at the TCC modulator reduces TCC apply pressure. The low apply results increased TCC slippage.

Correction:

Reconditioning the bore and installing Sonnax TCC modulator valve kit restores proper TCC apply pressure by re-establishing clearances.

Common complaints associated with Ford 5R55N, 5R55W and 5R55S transmissions are converter slip and code P0741. These complaints often occur at relatively low mileage. Wear at the TCC modulator valve bore reduces apply pressure to the converter clutch and line pressure. Excessive leakage anywhere on this valve body increases the foaming of the oil. This foaming increases the venting action from the breather. The Sonnax TCC modulator valve kit 56947J-15K includes a hardcoat anodized valve that is supported through its entire stroke. The kit also includes two springs calibrated for either 5R55N or 5R55W and 5R55S valve bodies.
