Symptoms:

  • 3-4 Flare
  • 3-4 Bump
  • 3-4 Harsh
  • Slipping gears

Cause:

Wear at the overlap control valve bore prevents proper exhaust of the disengaging clutch pressure, altering the precise timing required in the clutch-to-clutch shift transition.

Correction:

The improved Sonnax oversized overlap control valve kit restores hydraulic sealing integrity and valve timing when installed in a refurbished bore.

Warning:

Required tool kit F-68942-TL31 is no longer in production. Check with your distributor for availability.

The Mercedes 722.6 transmission uses clutch-to-clutch transitioning during shifts, so timing is very critical to prevent shift complaints like flares or bind-ups. The overlap control valves, controlled by EPC (modulated pressure) and shift valve pressure, are used to gradually reduce the pressure to the disengaging clutch.

Sonnax oversized 3-4 overlap control valve kit 68942-31K has slightly longer critical spool diameters and optimized annual groove placement for better hydraulic sealing.

  • The wear-resistant plunger sleeve has an added O-ring to provide additional positive sealing in the bore
  • The replacement spring and valve ratios maintain OE shift pressures for proper timing and function
