Symptoms:

  • 1-2 Bump
  • 3-4 Bump
  • Soft shifts
  • Harsh shifts

Cause:

Accumulator bore wear and/or piston sticking.

Correction:

Prevent leakage of worn valve body castings with this O-ringed accumulator piston and spring kit.

Ford CD4E and Mazda LA4A-EL transmissions may exhibit such problems as harsh engagements, and/or soft or harsh shifting, particularly from 1st to 2nd Gear. These complaints can be due to worn or out-of-round accumulator bores and/or pistons sticking in the bore. Sonnax accumulator piston kit 73840-24 for the 2-4 piston, 73840-LR for Low/Reverse and 73840-FWD for Forward.

  • Anodized aluminum pistons have two O-rings that prevent blow-by leakage
  • Pistons have been dimensionally modified to stop in different axial locations to prevent them from hanging up or sticking on the previously worn bore edges
  • Modified replacement springs are included to fit the smaller piston pocket
