In GM 6L80 and 6L90 transmissions, the CBR1/4-5-6 clutch regulator valve moves based on a combination of solenoid and spring pressure on one end, and clutch feedback pressure on the other. Depending on driving conditions, these forces shift the valve to direct line pressure to the appropriate clutch, enabling either Low, Reverse, 4th, 5th, or 6th Gears.
As the valve oscillates and strokes over time, the valve wears out, which allows fluid leakage causing delayed engagement in Low or Reverse and flared upshifts to 4th, 5th and 6th Gears, burnt clutches and poor shift quality. Installing Sonnax CBR1/4-5-6 clutch regulator valve 104740-50 restores normal shift operation by re-establishing the hydraulic integrity of the CBR1/4-5-6 circuit.
