Sonnax offers thrust plate FD-WS-31, an improved version of FD-WS-12 with a longer spline engagement for Ford AX4S/N, 4F50N, and AXOD & E torque converters. The 30% longer spline and hardness will reduce wear on both the washer and the mating pump shaft.
It is important that this thrust plate is welded concentric to the converter cover pilot. Otherwise the spline and mating pump shaft will wear prematurely. This drawing shows how a pump shaft can be made into a weld fixture to hold the thrust plate in place for welding in a converter welder.
